Peter Weller not returning?

I though Peter Weller was returning for the second film it looks like he isnt.

wouldnt the bear was programed to go to earth and replicate.
ive not read the book so i dont know.

he killed himself by blowing up the ship on reentry to earth - i guess after however many weeks it took to get home, he finally noticed the teddy bear chewing on his neck and decided to destroy both it and himself.
