Nice Surprise

Just wanted to add to the positive threads for this film vs the unfounded negative ones. I remember when the first movie came to theaters, I was an avid Fangoria reader at the time. If anyone remembers, the cover of the magazine featured an awesome prosthetic head with the terrifying open mouth transformation. I was a huge fan of Peter Weller too, so I was totally psyched for it.

I remember leaving the theater disappointed. It didn't meat whatever expectations I had set for myself at the time (and the Fangoria cover moment was and remains a disappointing bad CG moment literally taking up 1 second of screen time). However, revisiting the film all these years later I found plenty to love about it. Movies like this are not made nearly as often as they used to be, and I really loved a lot of the practical FX work and the creepy vibe (even if it is somewhat of a recycled "Thing" concept).

I didn't even realize they had made a second one until recently. I was certainly cautious -You never know with films made post 2000. The chances of it being an Asylum style movie (shot in one week with 100% horrible CG effects) is much higher once exiting the 90s. I decided to give it a chance anyway and ordered the Bluray for a very reasonable price. Wow, I was very satisfied with this movie. As other posters said, the actors are all great, the FX are awesome, and the movie manages to be on par with the original, in some places even exceeding it. It inspired a whole creative brain session after the movie about a potential third film! I hope someone decides to make it. It's now a very original concept should someone decide to move forward on it.
