Ok, seriously...

I've heard this movie being bashed for years. They added it to Netflix so I figured I'd give it a try, I enjoy watching crappy movies as much as any other film/tv buff but... I couldn't make it through ten minutes. Stupidest thing ever written or filmed... Who would invest money in this? And who would want to "act" in it? How could anyone actually watch this, enjoy it, and defend it? It boggles my brain.

*Sigh*.

Yet another person that doesn't get the film. Allow me to explain:

These films movies are avant-garde attempts to introduce the art style of Dadaism into cinema. Film Dadaism, as well as Dadaism, is defined as "anti-art, anti-bourgeois and anarchist in nature, often with strong anti-war themes." That sums up this film perfectly.

This film is such a rejection of cinema, they didn't even give it a proper title! Don't you get the joke? It's a rejection of the Hollywood caste system in place. A rebellion against all the Hollywood elites, if you will.

This film is so rich with symbolism, I could go on all day. Let's take the famous "heroes scene" though. Will is banding with 3 people, on the brink of death via tornado, and they all start cheering for a hero to show up. As soon as Iron Man shows up to rescue them, he gets squashed by a falling cow, which turns him into a metal can. This is like Mother Earth is saying "Enough with the industrial military complex that gave birth to war machines like Iron Man! Bring about peace and start recycling!" A strong element of Dadaism is antiwar, and this is a blatantly anti-war joke, so it comes as no surprise that the war-mongering, rich Republican film critics hate these films so much.

Also, these films are independent films, distributed by the company Lionsgate, who also did counter culture film hits like American Psycho, Fahrenheit 9/11, and Dogma. Perhaps you're one of those brainless morons who has to have explosions to be entertained (I see you criticized the graphics). Well, go back to the Michael Bay board if you want meaningless films with shiny graphics. Leave discussions about the artistic indie productions (like Disaster Movie) to the people who love them!

I don't think the people that created the film are clever enough to do that.

reply

Well, they did it so they are clever enough to do it.

Literally every scene is rich in subtlety. It just goes over most people's heads.

What a great example of the mindset that the 'haters' have. Calling for silencing opinions by mass executions? Well, Mr Pol Pot, if you don't like democracy and freedom of speech, you should move to another country.

I know what Jeff means. This film is so underrated its such a shame when genius like Disaster Movie goes unnoticed and gets poor reception while garbage like Godfather, Dark Knight and Schindler List get critical acclaim.

Either you are delusional and need to spend your days inside a padded cell or just being satirical and need to pick up a hobby.

I think you are giving the writers WAY more credit than they deserve. I'm sure that they are laughing out loud that someone thinks that there was a message in this movie.

This movie is just a loose collection of skits each designed to mock some currently famous person that is serving out their 15 minutes of fame. And, what makes it even worse is that, by the time the film is released, most of the cultural references will have long since worn out their welcome. I mean really; Flava Flav and Amy Winehouse? No one cares enough about them to think that a parody is funny.

It appears to be written by a bunch of stoned 25-year olds.

In creating this you have shown you have at least twenty times the sense of humor, intelligence, and sarcasm that Friedburg and Seltzer have. Bravo, friend.

That's quite a unique take on these movies, though I'm not completely sure that was the intention the makers of Scary Movie and everything after had in mind. I can see the possible symbolism. Still, I think if that were the true intention of these films, they would makes examples of all kinds of films, as opposed to just anything made 5-10 years prior.

The main intention of these film is to make money, and even during the few scenes where the writers came up with a good satire, they mostly tried to make references to any movie that is relevant to a kid or teen, which I'm assuming is their target audience considering the low brow humor.

I don't like these films, but I don't absolutely hate them either. They remind me of Dane Cook's old stand-up shows.

Mine too. I hate the fact that this is even considered "good".

I caught the last half of this movie on Comedy Central and that was all I needed to see to know that this is a big steaming pile of poo.

I swear to you this film was a test to see how dumb mankind has gotten. Luckily, it didn't do too well at the box office, but more will be made every few years so be prepared.

Actually I enjoy Dadaism and anyone who thinks this tripe was an example of the genre is a pretentious idiot.

Its actually a very, very, weak attempt to make something funny in the tradition of Airplane. (Which was an incredibly funny film )

It failed miserably.
I get the impression that the people who made it had no sense of humour or writing ability whatsoever.
