what did the warden mean 'I know about ure wife and son'

What did the (very evil) warden mean by "I know about your wife and son" ?
Saw a picture "to daddy" and his drawing on the tabel?
Did they die ?Both ? Was that the reason for him risking his life like this in "a very dangerous job". Breaking out of prisons,,,,

And why didnt he escape juming into the water at first ?Was it that swimming to shore would surely have killed him?!

Since the movie uses the '80s action movie formula, I assumed they died and that made him think there was no reason to live. That would explain why he has no problem spending most of his time in prisons.

And why didnt he escape juming into the water at first ?Was it that swimming to shore would surely have killed him?!

What shore? They were in the middle of the ocean!

What I Ment Was first time he Founder out They were on a ship.(middle of the Movie) if he jumper into the ocean could he have made it swimmingpool To shore !?

If you pay attention to the film it does explain it.
He was a lawyer who's family was killed by a man he got sent to prison. This man had told him he would get revenge, after escaping prison that's what he did. This is why Ray does what he does, to make sure the people who get sent to prison stay there.

When is this mentioned in the film ?

And My question Was "how did Warden Hobbes" know about his family. Read it in his book!? Matberedare n the biography in the besinning ??

reply

How the warden knew I'm not too sure. Maybe it was in the book. He explained it to Arnie at one point. It was probably Sly's partner who told the warden, thinking about it as it was him that wanted Sly locked up for good.

When in the Movie is this mentioned !?

reply

About the middle of the film i guess.
It's mentioned but not explicitly.
