6/10. Here's why:

Don’t be fooled by ESCAPE PLAN's lead actors. This isn’t another one of those throwbacks to 1980s action movies. It does have a few retro elements, but it’s a general and accessible action movie. It’s quite entertaining, but it should’ve been 30 mins. shorter. I’m not sure if the plot really needed the scenes outside of the prison. One of the biggest problems with action stars like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger is when they play everyday men or any type of character that makes the viewer say “I don’t buy him in that role.” This time, script writers Miles Chapman and Arnell Jesko are to blame for the problem with RAY BRESLIN. He’s as smart as MICHAEL SCOFIELD and as tought as LINCOLN BURROWS. Can a guy be both? It’s too far-fetched. Why am I defending Stallone? Because his and Schwarzenegger's performances are good. And I don’t mean “good by their low standars”; I mean actually good. I was surprised because some of their recent movies had made me thought that they were incapable of showing even the most basic emotions. What changed? The director? Or were they more motivated this time? Whatever it was, I hope it continues. Another good performance is Jim Caviezel's in a role where he could’ve easily been over-the-top, but he knew better than that. At the beginning, I was dissapointed with the design of the prison. The glass cells made me think that director Mikael Hafström was trying to show the audience the coolest prison ever when in reality it looks like an old steel factory. How did this movie cost $70 million? When it was revealed that they were on a ship, I thought "Ohhh... That’s not a justification but I’ll be more flexible about it."

Any thoughts?

I basically agree with you, but why not a 7 or 8 rating? It seems like you liked the movie.

I agree, it's about a 6 or 7. It kept me entertained and when the action finally kicked in, it was fun. Sure, there were a few things that could have been done better, but if we look at this as just a fun time enjoying a movie, this one does the job. Not quite as good as any of the Stallone or Schwazenegger vehicles of the past, like Rambo or Terminator, but overall this was a good team up movie.
