Movie's real problems overshadowed by Depp playing Tonto.

The movie is just too inconsistent and is too long. The Lone Ranger changes from a wimp to a badass on a dime. Armie Hammer says he doesn't want to kill criminals at the halfway mark yet fifteen minutes into the movie he's pointing a gun at this same criminal. Just sloppy sloppy screenwriting.

Pointing a gun at someone is quite a few steps and skips from straight up killing someone.

I thought they set up his hero turn pretty well. They could have added a training montage, but the film was already pretty long. They pointed out that he grew up in the West (so he already knew how to ride), that he boxed in college (so he knew how to fight), and he was a good man (who respected the law). The movie was about him realizing that sometimes a good man has to go undercover to help the oppressed when the bad guys use the government against the people.
