I see why it bombed.
Wasn't that good. Barely deserves a 5/10.

I agree, what I found most astounding was how a lawyer so quickly learns how shoot, fight and be a master horseman. But then again it's a Disney movie.

shareIt was enjoyable but not great. Better than any Transformers or Fast and Furious movie but they continue to rake in millions.
Figure that out.
This movie was difficult to assess for me. It wasn't good but it certainly had its good moments which I found on par with the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean or Mask of Zorro (same *beep* writers by the way!). If there's one thing it does right, it's the climax which was my favorite action scene of 2013.
But there was no need for a two and a half hour running time and the uneven mix of slapstick and violence really made it seem unsure as to whom it was catering to;there are some gruesome moments with no business being in this 'family-friendly' Disney movie. I don't blame Johnny Depp for the movie's failure but the director and writers who clearly got lazy with their own formula and foolishly thought people would just settle for a POTC clone instead of something more unique and self-confident.
That's actually the third thing I found wrong with The Lone Ranger. It didn't have any sense of self-assurance with its own story and characters. The Lone Ranger himself is literally covered in poop in one scene as a joke. That's symbolic of all the movie's issues. Would you see Indiana Jones or James Bond or even Jack Sparrow covered in poop?
What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.
You're what's wrong with the rating system here. The way you describe it, you should give it a 3 or lower.
