The movie was amazing, the highest point in Mad Max franchise.
The culmination of Miller's post-apocalyptic worldview.
Mad Max is a decent movie but feels slightly removed and minimalist compared to the others. A bit dated and rough around the edges... still it does have an edge! A solid beginning.
Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior) realizes the post-apocalyptic world that would become the basis for the movies going forward. A great movie but a bit contained due to budgetary reasons. Largely takes place on the road and at the sole (and notably small) compound where they store gas. The finale action is better executed than the original.
Mad Mad Beyond Thunderome expands upon the previous movies. Two primary locations serve us this time (Bartertown and 'Planet Erf'). A much larger production with more extras, a lot of animals, more interesting locations. The battle on the road at the end is the best of the franchise till this point. In saying all this it gets a bit too whimsical at times, feels almost like it was infused with some 80s childrens fantasy movie.
Mad Max: Fury Road. A true adrenaline ride. By far the best executed action of the franchise. The story though is slightly lacking. It's largely one prolonged action set piece on the road.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The pinnacle. The action is maybe slightly lesser than that of Fury Road but far superior to the original trilogy. It has a much more expansive story, varied locations and feels like a perfect blend of world building and action set pieces. The most epic Mad Max movie to date by a considerable distance. The CGI annoys some but with it Miller is able to build his worldview and deliver the action in spades.
