This ain't no hollywood comedy

Judd Apatow, each time closer to Cassavettes, shoots in his house, with his family and friends (who happen to be some of the most talented hollywood comedians). Uses a real home video of his real daughter singing in school and makes a compelling, strange, almost documentary scene out of it. He makes a movie with nothing like a classic structure, the structure is free, its a modern film. He finally gives Adam Sandler the space and good direction to get his best. He makes a funny movie but at the same time a very bitter, dark movie. This ain't no hollywood movie. This is film d'auteur, and one of the most interesting movies of the year. My congratulations to Judd Apatow.

Lop sided garbage with a few laughs is another way you could interpret it.

These are some movies of mine. Enjoy!

This is the best description I've read of the film on these boards! The way the film progressed it almost reminded me of a Goddard movie like "Breathless." It simply progresses naturally to the story itself, without giving in to traditional narrative restraints. Also, While Sandler has given some moving performances since Punch-Drunk Love this is certainly his best since it.

Yes! I celebrate that Universal wanted to produce or distribute this movie that is so far from industry conventions.
And thanks!!

The 3 act structure has been around since shakeasspear so i think its owed some credence. This film didn't acknowledge it at all and became lop sided. I personly didn't give a *beep* what happened after sandler got cured of cancer. The movie is like watching a mini series

To me, the movie starts when Sandler cures.
