Was it just me or was the scene where Adam Sandler's character is fake asking Seth Rogen's character to kill him similar to Tim Matheson and Chevy Chase in "Fletch"?

That's what it reminded me of to when I first heard it. Especially when Sandler's character offered him $50,000 which I think was the same amount as in the Fletch movie.
