Will this movie hurt Sandler's career?

I will always love Sandler for Billy Madison,Happy Gilmore and the Waterboy. His style will forever be embedded in my mind as a legend of mid- late 90's comedy.

While I didn't dislike this movie and would watch it again, it definately painted Sandler is a very negative light for a comedic actor. I think this will hurt him later on down the line once he gets older and the scripts start to run out.

This movie came off as a risky hybrid of comedy and drama and I think it hurt Sandler's image in the longrun.

Not really. Seeing how well Grown Up's did this past summer.

They want the Goofy Sandler, not the serious one.

If anything it should help his career later on. He can't do those goofy type films forever.

He was as good in this as he was in punch drunk love arguably and look at how much priase he got for that. Yes he was practically playing him self (successful rich comedian/actor) but he was a real douche bag. From what I hear he is quite a nice guy, so obviously his performance is convincing because I thought Geroge SImmons was a bit of an a sshole. However he wont be earning any award nominations. But he did show some sensitive and dark moments that were acted quite well.

A "career blunder" was it? Shame Sandler doesn't have you as an agent. I mean, his career really needs advice from forums comments. I hear he really struggles with career choices.

Where did he go wrong? Was it after his first hundred million? Or was it when he chose roles that your infinite wisdom wouldn't advise?

At first look of the topic, I thought you were being sarcastic (I'm still note sure; are you?). You think he will want to do movies like Billy Madison and Waterboy all his life? That's what will hurt his career if anything will. I am hearing very good things about his acting in this movie and am dying to see it on HBO in India!!!

His image hasn't been just "comedic actor" for a long time. He's always been funny, and probably always will be, but this isn't the first time he's branched out and done something other than just straight comedy. A lot of his movies had serious or romantic parts. Look at Click or 50 First Dates.
