You know when you hit the 'Play All' button on a Deleted Scenes menu?
That's what this "movie" feels like: 3 hrs(!) of deleted scenes and outtakes pasted together with no dramatic or theatrical thought, drive, phrasing (not to mention EDITING) implemented. Where was the actual film making? Why is Judd Apatow the mack daddy of his inner circle when he is the weakest film maker of the lot? Stick to the producer's chair please. Yes you know how to shoot people but there is thing called editing, structure and a coherent script.
This could've been a great movie, the premise of the rise and fall of a popular but unhappy comic who changes his life had great potential. Furthermore the movie is CALLED Funny People and therefore could've also been a really facinating, insightful look into the life of a comedian and what drives people to live this lifestyle (imagine if Rogen's roommates were ACTUALLY interesting, twisted, neurotic comedians that resemble comics we've seen live and on TV and not hipster douches who make kitten videos on youtube?)
Apatow not only wasted a great idea but let it go to *beep* in the most obliviously self-indulgent, cluelessly pointless and tedious way possible.
What a waste of time and opportunity.
