I dont get it

I thought this was pretty good. Well written characters and interesting dialogue for the most part. I for one thought it was funny.

but why do people dislike it so much? lol

reply

Maybe it was a case of unrelatability. It focused on someone who was rich and famous, which is something a lot of us can't relate to.

reply

No, it's very simple actually: A mix of weird Twilight-style uncomfortable silences and some idiot standing on stage not having a clue what to say. Woohoo great movie... NOT!

I am about halfway through it, and it's excruciating to watch. Nothing really happening, the dialog is so-so at best :(

If it were even a little engaging, I'd at least let it end before coming to IMDB ;P

Oh, well thanks for your comment, pretentious film goer. I still enjoyed it.

This movie is a fraud.

It plays all the way through like it's about to make an important point, but instead just wanders around lost and looking for a plot.

A dramedy with no drama or comedy.

A great big steaming pile of nothing.

"What's truth got to do with it?"
"What's truth got to do with anything?"

The wheels pretty much fell off the minute Apatow's bride showed up...

And to top it sandlers charachter is a real arse, he is self centred, rude to everyone and learns absolutly nothing from his near death experience.

Then to wrap it all up he just writes a few jokes down and that is supposed to make up for what a horrible person he has been to rogen and trying to ruin a family for his own selfishness. People may say selfishness is human nature and it is, but this film wasnt a characther study. it chugs on like it is going to make a point and then unsatisfyingly ends. I actually found myself rooting for Eric Bana.

it loses its way in the mid to last act and rely's heavily on cameos to keep up the laughs. having said that i thoght that Rogen was enjoyable and there were some nice moments in the film.

Even do I am no better than a beast do I not have the right to live?

i felt like that was the point of the movie....selfish people, depressing people, serious people, immature people...and nothing turning out right for any of them...i felt like it was a more touching movie than a funny movie. i did think it dragged on a little too long, i looked at the clock and was like really its been 2 and a half hours already.... I think apatow went a little too far with showcasing his family. But all in all I did like the movie it was different than what I expected much more of a drama than a laugh out loud comedy.

reply

yeah thats why its called funny people, not funny ha ha, but funny weird. Also although Sandle is the draw I think the real star is Ira, and he actually does grow in the movie

I thought it was called "Funny People" to emphasize the fact that in the world of "funny", there is still a world of "serious"
