This movie sucked so hard.

Normally I can give intelligent reasons for why a movie is terrible, but I wouldn't even know where to begin with this one. It attempts to criticize this disgusting, shallow lifestyle while at the same time glorifying it, and there's no real redeeming moment in the end, no resolution. It just turns into a typical Judd Apatow bromance, but Sandler's character is still a huge a-hole. I can't tell if this is because the movie is supposed to be "deep" and "real", or if it's because the writers were just untalented and lazy. I suspect the latter. Ugh.

Thank you! I was forced to watch this crap because "it is so awesome". Adam Sandler is a douche bag and hasn't made anything worth watching since the 90's. Seth Rogen is NOT funny and Judd Apatow can only make garbage featuring his annoying wife. God Awful!!!

Seth Rogan's voice bugs me.
True - I personally think Adam Sandler's last really hilarious movie was Little Nicky from 2000.

The ending was such crap. I mean, what's the point? What was he supposed to learn from his illness? He let some people back into his life, and then still spent the holidays with strangers like a jerk. You'd think he'd fly back home in the midst of an illness that could possibly kill him.

At the end he's still not very happy. And... *shrug*

Maybe the good vibes from the people around him helped him get better and gave him a second chance. Maybe without Ira, he would've died. I don't know.

The camera panning away as he and Ira work on jokes shows us they'll still be good friends, Ira will be working his way up the ladder, and George will remain a success... and that's it. I guess I'm missing something. Beating a potential deadly illness didn't really seem to give George a new lease on life or anything.

I can't believe so many people dislike this movie. True, it wasn't as funny a film as I thought it would be; but it really impressed me with Apatow as a filmmaker. It seems to be a comedy-drama but doesn't fit the structure of most. Rather than dark comedy in a dramatic storyline, it has the same Apatow humor that I love, with a blend of drama and real life issues.

The title Funny People is ironic. It's expressing how akward, lonely or depressing the lives of "funny people" can be. You tell jokes for a living, but are truly unhappy in life.

Genius.

I'm sorry, I can't take the opinion of anyone seriously who thought that "Adam Sandler's last really hilarious movie was Little Nicky".

Funny People was an awesome movie - hiliarious and profound. Just brilliant.

It was a fine movie, not the best ones ever made but good. I also enjoy that Adam Sandler agrees with me and admits that his movies are full of *beep* I can respect him for that.

Totally agree with the OP. I rarely hate a movie enough to be bothered to comment on it, but this blew! My friend and I found us willing the Adam Sandler character to die so it would hurry up and finish.

I usually love movies from this team and yeah I get that they were trying to do something different but I just found myself wondering what the point in making this movie was.

I would urge others not to waste 2+ hours of their life watching this crap because you can't get it back!

Movie was way too freakin' long. Way too self-important. A few jokes were good (like about JDate), but after the movie went on and on, I lost interest.

Only movies with interesting plots unfolding should last this long. Sadly this movie had literally nothing unfolding. Nothing but boredom.

reply

It was kind of long indeed. I got the feeling they weren't sure how to end it and they just kept adding scenes.
