50/50: Ready for the sort of unrelated follow-up?

shareThis film has NOTHING on 50/50. 50/50 is succinct and it balances comedy and drama perfectly. Apatow whores out his wife, kids and all of the quirky bands and comedians he likes in this film and it just gets embarrassing.
If they'd stuck to the main plot - a budding stand-up follows his idol who is secretly dying from cancer, then they could've had a really good film. But the whole family thing and all of the self-referencing was ridiculous.
