This movie started out so strong
Then they go out to San Francisco and the wheels just completely fall off this thing. The movie wasn't bad but it wasn't really good either. I thought this had a lot more potential...

shareI feel EXACTLY the same way.
After the peanut butter game, it all goes south. It gets very slow and off-track from the story for a really long time, all for the purpose of focusing the story around this annoying woman for several minutes. No wonder she wanted to be an actress. If she did that for a living, she could be paid to be a phony. It's clear that the main appeal for her in getting together with George was to move down to L.A. and resume her acting career... and possibly get her daughter into the business as well. I hate that they wasted so much of the movie on the San Francisco stuff. To me, it seems like a bunch of stuff that should've ended up on the cutting room floor. None of it was funny.
Yeah, the moment they went to Marin County, the movie was shot dead in its tracks. First of all, Leslie Mann is a very pretty woman and can be genuinely funny, but she was just plain miscast in this role. You can tell in some scenes that she has no idea where to go with this character. Second of all, the whole thing with Eric Bana was not the least bit interesting and just felt forced and annoying. They had so much going for it, and then the Marin County *beep* happens, and it goes down the toilet.
