It took Violet THAT long to realize her boss was showing favoritism?

OK, the creepy old boss of Violet's had been drooling after her from day 1, etc. It's implied that a long time had passed since her and Tom had spoken, and especially a long time since that first kiss with the said creepy boss of hers. Violet really didn't realize that her boss was only keeping her around for so long merely because he was attracted to her??? How did it take that many years for that to sink in to Violet's head?

She never did realize it; she had to be told by the coworker who was leaving.

For the same reason that she was attracted to him: She looked up to him. She saw him as this great intellectual. It never crossed her mind that he would ever do something wrong.
