Was it just part of his training? But it seemed like he was in the program for a while at that point with all those previous doctor visits he later talked about.
shareTo me it sounded like area wasn't just used for general training but that they would also send agents there for disciplinary reasons. Either station them at the cabin/check in point or make them run through the scavenger hunt in the wilderness as punishment for something they did that they weren't supposed to do. The other agent was stationed there because he "fell in love" (some have speculated that it was with Rachel Weisz character and that it was his photograph that was in the drawer of her desk). Aaron was sent there because, if I remember correctly, he 'went off grid' (didn't check in like he was supposed to) for several days.
