From my second viewing I found the characters played by Renner, Weisz and Norton to be totally coherent and very well painted. All three actors are excellent in this film.
The film is a case study in technical exposition, So much so that I wrote to the screenplay writers to congratulate them.
From my POV the weakness of the film was not the characters, but rather the formulaic shoehorned inclusions to tick the "Hollywood Blockbuster" obligation boxes for an "action" film.
- climactic final battle with the Uber bad guy - check
- spectacular car chase - check
- reluctant hero scores the babe - check
Although the revelation of the Uber bad guy program gave Norton's character another great scene... thank heavens for small mercies. Lana? Lana? LANA!
