Great characters, very disappointing story

I just rewatched this for the first time in 4 years and I enjoyed the characters, but the story just didn't seem to go anywhere. At the end of the day the bad guys still run things, Landy seemingly isn't going to be the hero whistleblower as she was set up to be in the previous films and the heroes are pretty much going into hiding. All that effort, all that running and all for nothing apparently. The medical science too, I felt was pretty weak and way "out there." It was reminiscent of an old favorite of mine "Universal Soldier" where the guys had to inject that super serum to be functional and not get too hot or they'd die. Like Starship Troopers they really should have limited that franchise to only the first film and then stopped:)

I think the star power made this movie rather than the script. I'm a big fan of Stacy Keach, Ed Norton, and Rachel Weiscz and I do enjoy most of Jeremy Renner's work too. I've never seen a film where I like any of Zeljko Ivanek's characters. Ever since he was a bully in School Ties I have just loathed him for years. Perhaps he's a bit typecast as a repugnant character, I don't know what it is. Glad he didn't last long in this film.

I've not yet seen Jason Bourne, but from the titles of the user reviews/comments section it looks like this franchise might never find satisfying closure which is too bad for the quality of the work overall. Hopefully this franchise just won't turn into one of those storylines that gets milked to death simply for fan dollars like I fear Star Wars is heading to be. I guess I'll reserve final judgement until I see Jason Bourne. Perhaps it won't be as hideous as others are leading me to believe it is.
