Incest?

I felt like there was some subtext hinting at an incestuous relationship between the two siblings... the only overt thing I can recall is when Linda tries to kiss him in that underground room with all the blue & purple lights (when she's on Ecstasy, I think), but other than that she's just ... very open with her sexuality around him. I don't have a brother so I don't know what it's like, and I'm sure some people would say "with a sibling that's just not something you ever think of", but personally, even if I were a stripper, I would keep covered up around my brother - not to mention the fact that she was always sort of ... leaning in toward him.

Or am I imagining all of this?

A few years to late on this reply, but nope. Not imagining it at all.

They went through a traumatic experience and did drugs. I think people are getting grossed out because of the brother/sister scenario without sitting back and thinking about the following things.

1. The car accident.
2. They were separated for a period of time and did not have any solace with each other.
3. They were high as s*it.

At the very end he is choosing to reincarnate as his sister's child. The whole story is laid out by Alex in the beginning while they are talking about the Book Of The Dead while walking to The Void. Oscar definitely had signs of an Oedipus complex that transferred to his sister that was likely caused by the trauma they endured as children. I think when he died taboo feelings were no longer denied. Similar to dreams where our subconscious is naked and reveal thoughts and feelings we deny in waking life. It's also interesting to note when we dream we release DMT which also happens during both birth and death.

It's not so bad as long as you can keep the fear from your mind.

More than 'hinting', it was pretty obvious.

wasn't the first thing he did fly over to the strip club to see his sister getting f_cked, and then possess the guy f_cking his sister so he could experience it himself?

reply

LOL

Oh no, nothing incestuous about that! 

Her boyfriend seemed to know what was up, with that little jibe "Don't be a bad brother", as he sits in the strip club watching his own sister get naked.

Another one nobody has mentioned is when she walks in at an awkward moment (i.e. right after he sniffs her panties) and he blows up at her for staying out all night with her boyfriend. She asks plainly "Are you jealous?", which he plainly is.

As thuddingly obvious as almost everything else in this facile Freudian fantasy. He's displaced his Oedipal love for his mother onto his sister following his parents' deaths, which is how he witnesses his own conception in her body at the end.
