Dr. Carrie Roman Appreciation Thread

Hello all,

I wanted to create a thread dedicated to Dr. Roman because in three seasons the writers managed to make her completely detestable to downright awesome.

I didn't start liking her character until season 6...probably around the time when Jackie threw her under the bus by stealing her DEA number which definitely made her more sympathetic, but I think it was the events of season 5 (nearly getting fired) and her relationship with Coop that softened her up a lot and made her relatable. I also really liked the little shenanigans she got herself into with Zoey by the end of the series and appreciated what she did for Coop by "letting him go."

I think the moment I knew she was hysterical was when she accidentally runs into Jackie at the pharmacy (right after Jackie attempts to call in the fake prescription) and her and Jackie have the most awkward run-in where Carrie tells her she needs to stop sleeping with guys she hates after buying Plan B and ends it with the awkward "Thanks for the girl-talk!" I was dying. I also liked how we got to see her super-unglamorous walk-up studio/1-bedroom to show just how different she was outside of work.

Even in season 5 though, I enjoyed the actress' take on the role and LOVED her character ticks. The writers were great at giving mostly everyone realistic dialogue, but just the way Carrie reacted and responded to certain things really seemed authentic.

Anyone else have a complete transformation regarding the attitude to this character?

I will agree with you.

I found her very irritating, and decided she just didn't know how to act when the show started. Once they moved her out of "shallow" territory and gave her feelings where she could connect with people, and she started taking her job seriously, I began to like her. There is something so dry about her delivery, that sometimes she is just funny without, perhaps, meaning to be.

She is by no means my favorite character, but they did do a nice job of making her real versus keeping her as a cliche.

I've just started season 5. And I cannot stand her. She is like every pretty girl who gets by on her looks. But I look forward to seeing how she matures.

I find absolutely nothing redeemable about Dr. Roman.

And the actress is ugly-hot at best!

reply

Loved Carrie! She was hot, bitchy and funny, so i was in love. Glad they mellowed her out.

reply

They not only mellowed her, but gave her some depth. And the actress had some interesting reactions and facial expressions. She's not just another pretty face. (By comparison, watch Keira Knightly's attempts to react.)

What the hell does this even mean?

reply

Her eyes are very wide-set which some people find unsettling (me, for one), and the way she keeps her hair in that single ponytail accentuates her somewhat large forehead, also not attractive to some. Apart from that, she's smoking hot.

I am in season 6:3 I still hate this character and hoping that she will not last the rest of season.

I thought she was a cliche character in season 5 & 6 but season 7, I liked a lot more, especially when she became friends with Zoey.

She's got magnificent boobs.. pity they didn't come out more often.. wonder if she was required to only wear read underwear throughout the series..
