Movie sucked 3/10
I don't know what happened to my original comment on this ... the first of anyone as I saw it on Amazon the day it came out.
This movie tries to bill itself as Alien-adjacent, in that it is about a Russian cosmonaut that comes back from space with a passenger inside him and the dedicated, unconventional woman doctor that is brought in by the state to try to help him.
It is a rather long time till we see what we are dealing with in this movie, and the path that leads up to it is just about boring enough to make you want to doze off or just find another movie.
When we finally meet the alien it is unbelievable in terms of size and threat. Take a look at the poster ... the giant monster and the man cosmonaut and you get the idea. Little by little our doctor starts to find out what is really going on, which is not very much, and there is some minor intrigue between the doctors and administrators and sneaking around. Sounds not too exciting doesn't it. It is. None too exciting.
At the end of the movie they've thrown in pretty much at the last minute this totally unrelated subplot about adoption from out of nowhere, and we are led to think it ends happily ever after ... of course after almost everyone is dead. Tolstoy or Dostoevsky, it isn't.
It has a similar "military wants a weapon" subplot, and some blood and gore, but nothing very graphic or scary, all dark and hard to see.
There were some ideas here with potential, but the moviemakers steered way wide away from them. There is hardly anything in this movie that makes sense, and actually I expected more from a movie from the lands behind the Iron Curtain, so to speak, because it made it to the Western release.
I would suggest if you are interested in this movie wait until it is free to watch on whatever streaming platform you choose, it is not worth paying for at all.
