calling the detective as a witness then not excluding the witness

as most witnesses in a trial , unless they are the investigating officer all witnesses are ordered to remain outside of the courtroom until called , thats why you always have the dramatic moment of the star witness walking into the courtroom, here he called the detective as a witness in this case hence the detective , particularly a homicide detective would have known to remain outside, its a standing order that all witnesses are excluded from the courtroom ,

In some states one of the lawyers, at the commencement of the case and before the first witness is sworn, must ask the court to invoke that rule in order for the rule to be in effect. If no lawyer requests it prior to the swearing in of the first witness then the rule is not in effect for the duration of the trial.
