What an ending... (spoiler)

Religious themes and practically all subject matter aside, the final few moments of the film are among the most emotionally exquisite I've seen.

The way no words were spoken and he helped her die, whilst looking at the elliptical shape above her... incredible bit of visual storytelling there. I can't really put into words how beautifully that was put forth.

The movie had its flaws, as all films do, but honestly that ending evoked a visceral reaction in me that was almost entirely beside the narrative of the film. So deeply, deeply moving and heartbreaking. Incredible.

agree.

the lunatics can argue how and why she died, but she was murdered by a christian mob, no doubt, and this cant have been far from what the emotions were . . .

reply

Beautiful imagery indeed - what acting . Stays with me still .

I loved the ending, so heartbreaking.

Davus's eyes fixed on the altar with Hypatia glancing up at the ellipse.

Beautiful ending.

I loved the whole movie - perhaps because I had no expectations. I thought it was a beautiful and beautifully made story.

I agree it was very poignant, almost like she had ascended to another realm. I think we'd all like to die with that amount of peace and enlightenment.

I almost felt as if the director purposely chose to save Hypatia the horrific fate we know is coming for her more for our sake.

Agree. I saw the movie again today (6 years after I saw it in theaters for the first time) and the ending brought up some strong feelings again.

reply

Agreed. Just watched it. Intense.

The training is nothing. WILL is everything.
