'Introducing Margarita Levieva?'

I saw this line in a trailer for "Spread" when I attended the cinema this past week. I was not under the impression that Ms. Levieva was in need of any introduction. I have been familiar with her work for almost 5 years now, and am well aware of her tremndous talent. "Spread" certainly isn't her first theatrical release, so I am curious, why the introduction?

I suppose I should stop playing the fool. I am fully aware that this "introduction" is an attempt to make Ms. Levieva more of a household name. An obvious ploy to say "Look at me! I'm in a movie with Ashton Kutcher!" (as if that's something to be proud of) "I'm a bonafide actress now!"

I am of the opinion that Ms. Levieva needed no introduction, and that her presence in the film alone would have been more than beneficial as compared to name association. I am glad to see that her career is on the rise, but at this point she should be putting more weight on the work she has done in the past, not trying to reintroduce herself.

Us people in IMDB are well aware of Margarita, but for the masses, they are not. The only real wide-release film she was in was "The Invisible", but that flopped so a vast majority of people probably couldn't place her face.

This (Spread) is a bigger role for her and she's starring along side of Kutcher. He has a built in audience which almost assures box office success, so it only makes sense to 'Introduce' her in such a role as this. Whenever she goes on to make another movie, people are hopefully going to say, "oh yeah, that's that girl from "Spread".

Great exposure for her. I guess you can compare it to a lot of those great Indie bands out there that are making great music, but are not vastly recognized.

She was in "Adventureland" as well.

reply

She was probably the best thing in that film.

this might be the funniest thread i've read on the imdb

the invisible was far from a hit but it grossed $20 million in US ($27 million worldwide)

Kutcher's "built in audience" brought in a box office total of $250 thousand (with a worldwide gross of $5 Million)

How many people do you think are going around right now saying "that's the girl from Spread"? answer= 0

lol

You can't "introduce" an actor or actress who has already been in other films & T.V. shows.

It's just a flat out lie or the people who made the trailer didn't know she's been acting in films for many years. Then, the same has to go for whoever approved the trailer & sent it out.

Major goof all around.

reply

was this film made before the others and therefore "introducing" is correct.

Zachary Quinto is ridiculously sexy!

reply

It's not a goof. It's exactly how I explained it.

Fountains of Wayne was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy in 2003 for their third album, and after having been a recording band for seven years. I think "introducing" is probably about as meaningless. Its not really used all that often anyway.

i agree with panicatthekai. ashton does have a big following and i believe they will make SPREAD a huge box office success. i am interested is seeing this one. when is it being released in theaters?

reply

It was ALREADY released you moron.

it made $250 thousand dollars!

kutcher had no "built in audience"!

No one showed up. it played to empty theaters through out the country.

reply

ALREADY RELEASED?
WHA WHA WHAT?!?

reply

yeah it was already released...LIMITEDLY. it's an indie film. and it made $7,461,585 worldwide playing at only 103 theaters. that's pretty damn good.

reply

..mmm...i don't want to beat a dead horse or anything but it actually only played in 103 theaters in the US (and Canada) where it played for 4 weeks and grossed $250 thousand.

A LIMITED release is usually used to drum up a large amount from a small audience to build word of mouth.

Here are some numbers from LIMITED releases the week Spread opened:

SPREAD 103 theaters - $1,200 average - $123,000 WEEKEND TOTAL
IT MIGHT GET LOUD - 7 theaters - $13,000 average -$93,000 WEEKEND TOTAL
KAMINEY - 85 theaters - $8,550 average - $727,000 WEEKEND TOTAL

the average theater gross of $1,200 was not good. It might get loud made just a small amount less FROM ONLY 7 THEATERS!!!

Kaminey made $600,000 more in less theaters than SPREAD and I NEVER EVEN HEARD OF IT>

i know that, but it did good overseas nonetheless
