Why did Heather have to leave dinner?

When Heather finally agrees to meet Nikki for dinner, she gets a phone call and has to leave right away. At one point she blames it on her brother, then later tells Nikki she has no brother. If her fiance/husband is in New York why did she have to leave the dinner date immediately?

She didn't. She was playing a game to drive A.K.'s character crazy ansd to want her even more. He was her "mark" until she realized that he had no money, so she was using all her tricks to make him interested in her.
