What's the point..

By the end of the film are we actually supposed to feel bad for Nikki?? He finally starts to get a dose of his own medicine even so far as to be labled the grocery boy by the girl he was with. It just seemed rather ridiculous to try to all of a sudden make him sympathetic and try to have us feel for him. Nikki was a jerk from the beginning, till the end, period. He was a user, a deadbeat, and just like anyone else like that, his looks will go away with time and he will be left with nothing. But I guess he ends up staying in L.A. anyway, it would have been much better to see him get randomly attacked and beaten down in an alley somewhere, that would have been far more entertaining. I can see why this film didn't do well, it's boring, slow, and most of all, no one wants to see Ashton Kutcher like this. I didn't by it, it just didn't fit for him.

any thoughts??

I thought it was entertaining. Never boring really. Laughed out loud a few times. It was a good watch I think. I know what you mean about not really feeling bad for him. I just don't get why he didn't go back to Samantha (the rich girl who's house we saw him staying at). She was cute and she liked him. Sounds good to me!

Well it's like that girl said "You sleep with women so they can give you things, your a whore" Maybe that made some kind of dent, but with someone as self absorbed and shallow as Nikki, I doubt it.

He got to the point in his life where being a man-whore was less appealing than being in love. having lost his love, he lost everything. So he starts at the bottom, delivering groceries to rich "janes" and living an honorable life.

Feel sorry for him? No more than we'd feel sorry for Dirk Diggler.

All it was was his level of insecurity mushrooming from 1. certain events happening and 2. how he allowed them to affect him.

Who pissed in your cereals?

Why can't people just watch a movie without inventing meaning to things that have no deeper meaning. He was a man-whore who got burned. You weren't supposed to feel sorry for him.

reply

Sure but there's a difference between feeling sorry for him (sympathy) and empathy or some interpretation of what is happening to him. Processing the info we see!
