Great movie but could be better...Please share your thoughts

I am a huge fan of sci-fi movies and have seen a lot. As per my taste and ratings there are some which are really great ones and stand tall against a lot of names, e.g. Prometheus (excluding the sequel). It was a real gem. Oblivion is another one of them.

Did anyone feel a huge resemblence with the above mentioned two movies? The script, cinematography, VFX and effects were great but it didn't feel something new. I am not debating on the paradox of using a script and mixing it with own, at all. It was indeed a great movie but the concept was not new. I don't blame the writers as well, a lot has been written and filmed that something new can't be brought in.

The concept of an evil existence with a machine involved is getting pale. Actually i liked the script a lot and i really wanted it to be something different and new. I want to hear your thoughts if you had the power to write its script or alter a few things or even chose a different path, keeping the script as it is, what would you have done?
