I don't think they got the point of Van Helsing

That movie was supposed to be cheesy goofy nonsensical fun.

Ah well, they'll parody anything these days to make money. Perhaps they should've chosen a film with significantly larger box office figures though...

I don't think that's right.

Looks like you were the one who didn't get the point of Van Helsing

Have you listened to half the lines? They were having a good ol' time of it. So what if it was corny? It was about dracula, frankenstein monsters, werewolves, and igor. They knew it and they played it up, had some fun with it.
Much like Pirates of the Caribbean, this movie doesn't take itself seriously, has some fun, and therefore it doesn't make sense to parody it.

The Van Helsing character pre-dates the Hugh Jackman film by decades.

reply

the character was von helsing, and he has been around for a LONG time. van helsing was a crappy movie about the long existing character. this movie will be making fun of all the vampire movies i assume, and could very well have had the same title if van helsing was never made

reply

?? Umh nooooo! The character's name has and always will be Van Helsing in the original Bram Stoker Book. Not Von Helsing. Von Helsing is a riff on Van Helsing used in the Japanese cartoon Gundum.

Further more, Von is german for noble, Van is dutch for noble, and Prof. "VAN" Helsing was Dutch!

Right. Van Helsing, like Van Dyke. Could be Dutch.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Van_Helsing (Yup, it's Dutch)

Its NOT a parody of that TERRIBLE movie that could've been SO great given the material starring Hugh Jackman.

The kid (Stan) happens to be a video store clerk, gets stuck in a mansion on Halloween night & "discovers" he is a DESCENDANT of Van Helsing...& their happen to be a million monsters in the mansion....

sounds like it could be OK, but the straight to video thing kinda makes me wonder...thanks to those hacks Friedberg & Seltzer churning out all those HORRIBLE parody movies like Date Movie, Disaster Movie & Meet The Spartans... I'd only trust ONE name on a parody movie, and that's David Zucker...to a lesser extent, the Wayan's brothers..since neither of those are attached to this, this could potentially be TOTAL cr.ap!

It was not related to the Hugh Jackman movie, as should be obvious to anyone aware there was pop culture and literature prior to this century. Was it awful? Yep. Kinda what you would think. The fail ratio of the gags was probably under 20%. Somehow I still prefer watching a bad spoof movie to a typical night of singing/ dancing/ elimination reality show television schedule. It was not a super low budget D grade movie shot with a phone camera, but it is won't complete with classic Zucker movies either.

If it isn't related to the Hugh Jackman movie, why does Stan wear the exact same hat as Hugh Jackman at the end?
