I don't know of a lot of shows that are given much of a shot in this day and age. It seems like if it isn't an immediate ratings success it get's dumped. This seems to be truer and truer as time goes on. It is getting worse. A lot of really good shows aren't really being utilized to there potential by the networks. Both this, and 'Sit down Shut up' (another recent Animated comedy that wasn't given a fighting chance before being re-scheduled) probably would have had better success on cable. Either on Cartoon network via 'Adult swim' or as shows on Comedy Central. They are both quite a bit better than most of the crap on Comedy Central anyway.

can understand canceling it quick due to bad raitings

but least tell people when it coming on.

Maybe ABC is trying too hard here. "The Goode Family" is ABC-TV's first animated series in prime-time...and its the network first cartoon series in prime-time since "The Flintstones". I got the chance to see one episode of this series and from what I saw was pretty darn good. Maybe what they're trying to do is moved this series to a better time slot....cause ABC hasn't had a great Friday night hit show since......."Family Matters?" "Perfect Strangers?"
"Step by Step?".....let me take it way back..........."Full House?"

Who remembers when ABC had that powerhouse TGIF lineup back in the 80's and 90's opposite "20/20"

yeah. it was Fox. The show had its merits, though.

This show has a couple of moments. But the Critic is Citizen Kane in comparison.

the last abc adult prime time show was that one with the lions featuring John Goodman
It was Father of the Pride.

reply

Wrong that was NBC

My Name Is Earl & Scrubs are the 2 best shows on TV!!!

reply

FYI:

The animated series "Father Of The Pride" was on NBC. Not ABC.
John Goodman provided the voicework as the fatherly lion.

the shows suck, maybe they can clear the garbage, and give a project with some originality a chance.

Yep the game plan these days seems to be if it doesn't out do Lost then drop it in favour of sticking a camera in some celebrity's kid's living room..

Mike Judge puts up with a lot of crap from TV execs.

And he gets paid millions and millions of dollars, my friend. So, boo hoo.

You could drive over my testicles, for that amount of capital.

Besides, the guy is treated like royalty by execs.

Do you think they are mean to him and make him sit at the little kids table during dinner? Let's be real.

The show is okay(pretty bad) at best, but hey its the "era of ignorance".

I sure hope I can make my fortune in this town, before they start requiring original ideas, again.

reply

where you get that he get paid millions

never thought of mike judge to be that high at the hollywood totem pole

More than 400 credited, produced projects from 91 to present day - some of which are 200 individual credits long.

For each of these projects you can multiply the monitary value by 3. Writer, producer, and actor.

"King of the Hill" .... Hank Hill / ... (252 episodes, 1997-2009)
"Beavis and Butt-Head" .... Beavis / ... (195 episodes, 1993-1997)

Writer:

Emmy Awards

Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming Less Than One Hour)
for: "King of the Hill" (1997)

Nominated 7 times. - Everytime you're nominated for an Emmy or Oscar your paycheck goes up. Especially if it's over the course of 16 years.

Of course the man is worth millions.

Shame that ABC is trying to get rid of this show. For Pete's sake, they don't even advertise the show anymore. Seriously, what kind of ratings were they expecting? It's the SUMMERTIME. Less viewers are going to tune in to TV during the summer because there are plenty other things they can do outdoors. ABC shouldn't drop this show. They should give it a second chance and maybe place it in mid-season. It would do better there.

Also, viewers are just hard to please. They watch a pilot and BAM, they give up on the show. It should be common knowledge to people that a pilot kicks the show into gear, meaning that there's a chance the following episodes will improve if the pilot is okay or mediocre. Those who quit after the pilot miss out, because these episodes so far are entertaining. But, since the show isn't another Family Guy, no one cares.

Sad. I hate good, entertaining shows that don't get a chance. It's a crime.

Weird is the new normal.

reply

The problem isn't that less people are tuning in because it's summer. The problem is that it isn't drawing even enough viewers for Summer. If it's not the best rated show on Friday at it's time slot, it's not because "it's summer".. It's because the public find the other show to be better... That's what is going on here.

reply

The show is simply boring. Is it trying to be funny? Dramatic? What's happening? Look at the premise of the show: a family obsessed with doing good. WOW, how totally uninteresting. :(

I'm just sayin'. Consumers need to be entertained in order for the show to stay on the air.

reply

It's a humorous satire on the absurd extremism of good-intentioned but knee-jerk progressives/liberals. Frankly I'm SHOCKED that it even made it on the air. It's rare to see anything come out of Hollywood that dares to mock its own kind. In that sense, it reminds me of Norman Lear's "Maude" and that 1980 movie "Serial" with Martin Mull. Yep, it's been that long...

Yes, I killed Yvette. I hated her sooo much. F - flames, on the sides of my face - heaving, breath-

think people point is

how can it even begin to get raiting with NO advertiments, and not telling people it moved

I mean take Cable chanels shows. Burn notice, royal pains. Shows that get good raitings (not that good by network standards"

They put in the time to really advertise it, and hype it up

like USA new show white collar crime

I know when its on
I know the plot
I given scenes from it to get me interested

Goode family..I honest to god didnt even know it started. Only found it on the net. Bet a lot of people arent aware of its existence
