A live action film of Left 4 Dead? (SPOILERS)

I just loved this movie!, but I couldn’t help noticing a lot of similarities between La Horde and Left 4 Dead, such as:

1.- A group of mixed characters that have to escape from a mob of hungry ragers zombies.

2.-They begin their escape from the roof of a building (where they find out that the whole city is infected).

3.-They have plenty of weapons and ammo, and when they run out…suddenly they find another room with a big cache of new weapons with ammo.

4.-Even if they only have some handguns and a shotgun in the beginning, later in the game (eer.. I mean movie) they can upgrade to machine guns, uzis and even grenades.

5.-They use drugs to endure the pain, just like the “pills” in L4D.

6.-Every few steps, when everything seems safe to continue…angry running ragers burst into the room!!!

7.-We have most of the normal ragers from L4D in the movie, hooded hunters…and even a Witch scene!

8.-And my very favorite (Big ending SPOILER..if you haven’t watched the movie, stop reading now!): Just like playing L4D online, when you finally reach the final level and waiting for rescue, one of your “companions” kill you just for fun.
Hey! That’s the internet for you!

yeah i noticed this months ago - and i havent seen the film yet

can just tell by the style and the poster

I sure hope more people get to watch this foreign movie. Just like REC, The Horde took many popular elements from the survival/horror genre and created a really awesome film!

On the other hand, I'm not sure about dubbing this movie...the laughing guy in the "leg" scene was so funny!

reply

hopefully no american chumps remake it next year

reply

Damn it! Now that you mention it, there are plenty that could attract Hollywood attention: Drug criminals against corrupt cops, an old building full of illegals inmigrants, possible corpse rape, a war crazy old guy and don't forget the guy with the "secret" weapons cache...

Nah! I don't think Hollywood would fall for this.

reply

I wouldn`t compare this to Rec. For me Rec is like 9/10, and La Horde is 4/10.

rec blows la horde out of the water with how much better it is

I agree with the OP, my first impression was that this is a movie version of Left for dead. Especially when I saw the old man with an axe. But the game also rips of many zombie themed movies.

Ouessem chops of hundreds of hands with a machete, and doesn't get any blood on him, and none of the zombies try to climb the roof of the car, even though they are running and raging in the entire movie. They overdid it in that scene.

reply

I totally agree they overdid it with the horde of zombies at the underground parking. Funny thing how they transformed from modern running ragers to classic slow crawling zombies; but I gotta admit that one man against an army of zombies, even knowing his battle was going to be futile, it was really epic!!!

Couldn't agree more with i_Return. Sorry OP but i do think MANY zombie films have similarities with Left 4 Dead, and yeah i_Return has said about Zombieland/Dark Carnival being similar.
But whatever. Just take La Horde for what it's worth. And let's just hope for a Left 4 Dead adaptation on the big screen :)

reply

yep
but its funny though, (spoiler alert)how that elevator scene turned out:
when the nigerian brother and his friend betray him and strip them of weapons and leave in the elevator , i couldn't help but notice that 4 guys, a white dude, a black dude, an old veteran and a girl were left there..for dead (pun intended :P )

reply

Jesus Christ would you relax.

Pretentious!? The OP simply pointed out some valid similarities between this movie and a video game. Completely harmless.
He never said Left 4 Dead 'pioneered' anything and he never claimed one was better than the other.
He just said this movie in some ways reminded him of the game.

And then you babble on with a lot of crap that has nothing to do with anything.

You are hereby the winner of 'overreaction of the year'.
Congratulations.

I also thought La Horde is reminiscent of a few things without being a ripoff of any of them.

It's a similar setting to [Rec] but with zombies from Dawn of the Dead (2004) and the ferocity and overwhelming numbers depicted in Dead Set (a UK miniseries), with the survivors using Left 4 Dead 2 weaponry (rather than L4d1 since they used machetes and the like).

If you watch DotD 04, Dead Set and La Horde - in that order - it's like a "trilogy" of the same zombie apocalypse, each one focusing on different survivors in different countries, each one darker than the last. Having seen Dead Set and given how La Horde doesn't attempt to explain how Z-Day comes about, it was like the infection had spread from England into France when I was watching it.

If La Horde is L4D1/2

Then Land Of The Dead (2005) is HL2 (Half-Life^2). How much does Dennis Hopper look and act like Dr. Breen. He even has a Citadel. No combine or head-crabs though. Damn

(and his name is Paul Kaufman, like me, sort of, diff. spelling though same pronunciation.)

People take their zombie films very seriously. The living-dead rising to feed of the flesh and/or brains of the living, whilst the living fend of hordes of the re-animated corpses with automatic gun-fire and grenades and machetes, is a serious intellectual exploration of human kinds collective image and a serious satire of political and religious extremities, not to mention family/friend/brotherly-or-sisterly ties.
