What was with all the explosions going on in the city, including the one that destroyed most of the building's staircase?
Except for this and maybe the fact that the guard was SUCH a gun nut(he had a grenade and a machine gun....now how could a night guard afford/get his hands on such "heavy equipment"?...but this is a movie, so we'll let this one slide) this is one of the BEST zombie movies that I've seen in a long while!!!

BTW, no wonder the old man was such a BADASS, from the references he makes to Dien Bien Phu, he was a French Foreign Legionaire in his youth.

The building was condemned. The guard was another gangster.
I assume the explosions were an attempt of the military/government to get the epidemic under control.

the old dude said he had blown up a bunch of them in the stairwell with home made explosives. He "ran out around the 16th floor". I'd agree with the above poster on the explosions in the city.
