Is anything on this show true?

I havent seen this show

I didnt know who Carol Baskin was till her name kept popping up all over the place , usually next to some abuse. So i googled who she was , heard about the king at the same time.
seems to me
On the one hand youve got a guy who breeds tigers for profit convicted of murder-for-hire and nine violations of the Endangered Species Act.

and on the other you've got a woman running a sanctuary for all the cats that get thrown out when they arnt cuddly anymore..

and somehow she's the villain?
Nearly every thread here is about how she's the biggest force for evil since Darth Vader.
The Power of television and the edit sure is powerful. They can paint people any way they want to create drama , and do , on nearly all reality shows.

Carol's side of the story here:

OMG, I could have written that..

Between the Facebook memes and the constant referrals to her whenever something abusive was the subject, I Googled her, then came here.

I honestly thought the whole thing was a Walking Dead scripted show, but it's a reality show?

Sounds like the Balloon Boy family that tried to get on TV. I'd bet real money that this whole thing is a scam and that the guy isn't dead, much less being fed to a lion. Once the series has run its course the guy will be "found" living in in New Zealand or somewhere with his girlfriend.

reply

I think it's supposed to be a documentary, not a reality show.

Ah, OK I haven't seen it. Still think the whole thing is a crock of shit though.

OTOH, I'm still waiting for Andy Kaufman to pop up alive..

reply

It's certainly sensationalized and there's no doubt it's been edited to fit the narrative of the producers. Like any documentary, what you don't see can be just as important as what you do see.

reply

My thoughts exactly. My biggest question about this whole thing is how Carole could have agreed to do this in the first place. She said that the producers were supposed to be making a documentary on how big cats are exploited/dumped by people who try to keep them as pets (😡) and they wanted her involved because she runs a reputable, highly regarded sanctuary. What I can't understand is that as the production was going on, didn't she have any say? Didn't she realize that this was actually a sensationalist documentary and not anything educational that would help the cats?? That's what I don't understand!

I'm really annoyed at Netflix because they've done some fantastic educational documentaries in the past that have brought to light a lot of animal suffering in an attempt to effect change. They certainly missed the boat on this one.

I would think she comes out as being right in regards to big cat rescue and the show has let everyone know how these big cat zoos should be shut down. I guess human nature being what it is attracts these types of people to own big cats. Baskin is one, but she had a somewhat noble purpose even though she is a prime suspect in her husband's disappearance.

In regards to the latter, I hope the sheriff gets some clues, evidence, witnesses, and so on to be able to solve this cold case.

reply

I think she was tricked into it as she not unreasonably believed it might have been an documentary that would educate people about not keeping big cats and further her cause too have cruel "roadside zoos" made illegal.

Instead she got the biggest character assassination ever , on what sounds like the worst kind of scripted reality show bullshit ever created , and was probably locked in on a contract and/or had little idea how it would look post production.
Like I said , a good editor can change black into white , heroes into villains , water into wine.

Can she sue? I bet Netflix will have tight contracts saying they can do what the fuck they want , although I dont know if a judge would agree that that extends to putting peoples lives in danger - she is so universally hated by moron-tv addicts it wouldnt surprise me if she was killed.

What character assassination? Do you mean what Joe did and said about Carole Baskin? How can anyone believe him when he tried to send a hit man after her?

The show showed he was a liar. He made the fake lip sync video showing a parody of Baskin allegedly feeding human meat to a tiger. The show showed so many things against him including being a possible arsonist torching his own alligator, crocodile, and reptile compound and blaming it on producer Rick Kirkham. At first, I thought we were watching Kirkham's documentary.

As for Carole Baskin's husband, we'll have to see if the cold case request from the sheriff turns up anything.

What character assassination?

Well , as i said I havent seen the show, but she is now the subject of a worldwide flurry of internet memes and other online crap , all extremely negative. To the point where i'm worried for her safety.

reply

OIC. That could be valid since her husband disappeared. However, she could have been involved in his disappearance since she inherited all his wealth. The spouse is usually the main suspect and usually the one who did it.

If there is anything of interest in the posts here, then you should watch it. The big cat culture is one subculture that attracts a lot of strange characters. Like I said even Carole Baskin is a bit odd even though she supposedly has noble reasons in trying to shut down these big cat zoos. In fact, she has one herself in order to "protect" and "save" these royal animals.

reply

she did it, she is a terrible liar.... it is proven time and time again on the show.

reply

If she did it, wouldn't she be under investigation by the law?

reply

No, police in Florida are hopeless..... it's a jungle out there

reply

Based on what we see on the show and the way it is presented, I believe Carole had a hand in her husband's disappearance.

However, nothing in the show can bee considered "proof" that she did it or that she's a liar.

You say "it is proven time and time again on the show," but in no way was it proven that she did it or she's a liar.

reply

Of course the producers are going to cut it as they feel fit to up the entertainment factor. Having a pantomime villain serves that purpose.

However I wouldn't feel overly sympathetic towards her as they had turned up footage of her playing with tiger cubs her and her "disappeared" husband had bought years before.

Joe Exotic running for Governor absolutely is. John Oliver showcased his campaign video when he was running for election. I remember watching it
