If you went to Hollywood and pitched a blabbering, drug-addled, gun-toting, mullet-wearing, gay polygamist, tiger whispering redneck who plots murder and runs for governor as a character, the studio execs would say that's nonsensical and far fetched. I like how you termed it, "as a character"...because that's what the guy was, when all is said and done, right? The old saying, "All the world is a stage"...some people take it to new heights, and this particular guy...well he looks down on those people and chuckles.
Fwiw though...he seemed a strangely likable fellow though, didn't he? I mean, utterly ridiculous, a complete attention whore, but I couldn't help but enjoy him some at the same time.
