Absolutely hated it, until second viewing
I lasted ten minutes the first time I tried to watch this movie. Finally got around to watching it again and actually enjoyed it.
Reminds me of Sin City, except not as depressing and dark.
A bit cheesy in some areas. For example, the main Samurai was extra cheesy and ruined the movie for me a bit, his eyebrows were arched better than mine - a super feminine samurai doesn't work!!
I am an martial arts, classic kung fu movie aficionado/expert and I did NOT buy him in that role.
I liked Kevin Mckidd. I found his character believable. Like a brute, with raw fighting talent, not necessarily a trained fighting artist.
I bought Josh Harnett as a boxer/MMA style fighter.
I bought the Ron Perlman as the wood cutter. I liked it BETTER than Sin City which was visually stylish, but a bit too grim for my taste.
This felt like a cartoon, a classic revenge tale, like the old school movies.
