Nice movie but it has some science mistakes

1. A hazmat suit made with duct tape is not going to work. It will likely leak because if you move around, the tape will come off at certain points.
2. I don’t know what she used to filter the air but I don’t think it will work.
3. Cooling a steel lock to break it would not work like that. It would probably reach -5 °C. You need to dip it in LN2 to reach about -150 °C, then steel becomes brittle.
4. Perchloric acid is not flammable. It also contains a large quantity of water.
5. When the perchloric acid reach the electrical wire, nothing would happen. Such wires are made of PVC and acids don’t effect PVC.
6. How did the air filter system work? Viruses and bacteria will likely pass through.
7. Howard should have had a Geiger counter to measure the radiation outside.
8. The aliens look like worm things. They don’t appear intelligent.

Ah yes, I remember reading in my 8th grade science textbook that "worm-looking things" cannot possibly be intelligent.

Exactly. So everyone agrees with me.

reply

That worm thing was just the aliens dog equivalent. Not the alien master themselves. It was obviously about as intelligent as a dog.

reply

Really? A whole lot of women I know say most men think with "worm looking things"

I thought the worm thing was like a dog being sent out to find and kill humans. We see it being lowered as the flying thing turns. If it had been very intelligent it would have killed her instead of reacting to the car horn stopping.

I guess you never heard of the "Club" (steering wheel locking device). It also has a locking system very similar to the lock in the movie. Car thieves were well known to "freeze" the locks on them (using compressed air), then bang them with a hammer. I will admit tho, that banging with the can might not give the desired results, but the compressed air will.

I don't believe it. Sounds like an urban mythos.
This would mean that all these locks are crackable during winter time.

Some good points, but you have to have some artistic licence to make a good film, no?

Suspension of disbelief. Look it up. I bet you're no damn fun to go to the movies with. You probably talk through the whole thing trying to pick it apart with your false idea of intellectual superiority.

Cite your sources, child.

WORDS MEAN THINGS! Also, before you come to bitch about a plot hole, rewatch the show/movie.

Sure it all sounds reasonable to me. Its just pretend it does not have to conform to the logic and rules of reality. The purpose of a movie is ultimately to entertain not to be a real life simulator.
