Jackie Earl Haley did a good job.

I finally watched this after years. I'm sick of remakes, but I thought Jackie did a good job. Not better than Robert though.

Haley did an excellent job.

Too bad the writers and director didn't. They held the movie back.

He NAILED it. I love how instead of trying to copy Robert, he made Freddy his own. The script was TERRIBLE and JEH STILL nailed the part. Imagine what he could do with a competent script and director.

I'm not sure making it his 'own' was what he did. He drew really heavily on his performance as Rorschach. So was it good acting, or just using the only technique he could call on?

Robert invented the Freddy character. Haley...did something else. But it didn't feel unique.

Haley is a pretty varied actor so I wouldn't say it was his only technique. The voice was definitely Rorschach, but I was also fitting for Freddy. He pretty much sounded furious the whole time which I personally love. I thought he was a great choice, but they didn't give him much to work with. He mostly shined in the alternate ending that they didn't go with.

He played a version of Freddy that was not a direct immitation of Roberts Freddy. I think that was needed. He was angrier, more intense, and it seemed at times more sadistic. He seemed to be more calculating as well. His voice sounded like Rorshach but other than that I did not see many similarities.

Agreed. Haley is creepy perfection as Freddy.

If the rest of the movie was up to Haley's standard, we may have gotten a good flick. I would love to see him tackle the role again.

reply

He ruled the film with an iron fist.

A good job at destroying the character.

Now I await for the fan trolls to reply in butthurt and rage.

I think that he did about the best as can be expected of him, but in the end he was completely and utterly miscast.

And the problem isn't necessarily his mannerisms or acting, which I think he ultimately did okay with. The problem is his size. He is under 5'5, must weigh about 130 lbs. and it shows. Besides that (and it might sound odd) his head is so small, and he looks really stupid with the hat. It makes him completely unintimidating.

I don't know how to put my finger on it exactly, but England *WAS* Freddy Krueger, and I don't know if it is possible to duplicate. There was something about the character that was so sinister that is missing in this. The JEH Krueger was more like a pet rabbit that I wanted to pet.
