Say what you want, but I love this film.

Both the original and remake are great in their own ways. The original is iconic, fun, creative, and nostalgic. The remake perfectly updates the film for the modern generation, following the original storyline, but still bringing many great ideas and changes. The atmosphere was absolutely wonderful and the visuals were amazing (well....minus the CGI Freddy coming out of the wall, but that's not a big deal). And there was nothing wrong with the performances.

So what that there were two emo characters....we still had a variety of other characters and they both give great performances anyways. And Robert Englund will of course always be Freddy Krueger, but I truly loved this film's perspective of the character, making him darker, more sadistic, and visually realistic (as a burn victim), but still giving him the playfully tormenting/taunting quality. Jackie did a great job at doing a different, yet respectful, take on an iconic character. And, come on, that whole micro naps thing in the pharmacy was awesome.

Honestly, the only thing I would have done differently (besides the Freddy in the wall CGI thing) would be to make the death scenes a little more creative. I definitely understand why some people wouldn't like it (mostly fans of the original), but I truly think it is an overlooked, high-quality film. Just because it didn't fit your personal taste or enjoyment doesn't make it "terrible". This is a well-constructed film and calling it "terrible" would mean that it would fall in the "Jaws: The Revenge", "Mean Girls 2", and "Prom Night " (2008) category.

I definitely agree and I think it is one of the better remakes. It has a very disturbing and sadistic feel to it and there are some great nods to the original franchise. I still wish the kills were more creative and we had some of the ideas from the original script and deleted scenes, and dear god change Katie Cassidy's death, but Jackie's performance and the darkness of this movie make it really enjoyable and good to me. Definitely one of my favorite remakes.

I also did a review/short analysis on this film for my blog (which I don't use anymore).

I agree with you all. I have been a fan of Freddy since he came out but I can appreciate the effort that went into this. Jackie was just excellent and I totally disagree with the prevailing trend on this wall to insult the make-up, it was more realistic than Freddy's other make-ups ever were and fit the tone that they were going with this. I loved Freddy's development through the original series but always missed his darker first appearance and this film caters for that desire to see something truly scary again. The actors were good and the script was what it needed to be. Yes the kills could have been a little more creative and yes that wall scene was done better with practical effects in the original but each time I see this I only like it more. I also give them credit for taking a stand on the "was freddy a pedophile or just a murderer?" issue which was never answered but hinted at in the original series. This movie both makes me like the new approach and the darker Jackie's performance and also makes me love the old elm streets all the more. You don't have to pick either, you can love both, and I do.

I do as well; one of my top favorites in the series actually, and Jackie Earl Haley was terrific as the new Freddy (although Englund is the better of the two, I liked what Haley brought to the character as well). Also, while people seem put off about the molester aspect, I actually didn't mind it, because I felt it made Freddy even more darker and scarier than he already was. A child killer is scary enough, but a molester AND killer? that's even more horrifying, if you ask me.

Never understood the hate for the film; its one of the better ones in the series to me, as it gets Freddy back to the way he should be: dark, menacing and creepy.

Thank goodness.

Enough with the hate. Jackie was awesome in this film. It was still fun and had a great amount of darkness and depravity.

Why is this film rated so low? Fans of the original.

They probably didn't realize this is a remake... or rather, an updated version of a classic. Which I believe was VERY well done.

They realized it's a remake, that's why they hated it and rated it low. I hated this movie before I saw it, and seeing it didn't change my mind.

You liked it, and that's perfectly fine. Take pride and liking a film that others don't. Nothing wrong with that.

Fans of the original we're going to hate this no matter what. Despite the original having horrible acting and a terrible ending. The original is a great concept but not a great movie. I think the remake outshines the original easily, though the 3rd is the best overall to me.

I absolutely LOVE the first 2 Nightmare on Elm Street films. This remake happens to beat all their sequels.

I enjoyed this movie a lot myself. While is wish they had more fun with the dreams, Rooney is terrible, and the moms in the film are just awful, the rest of it was great to me. I loved Jackie as Freddy and this film gets way too much hate for no other reason than its a remake and not Robert Englund. Personally I hope we get a sequel with Jackie.

I also really liked this one. A lot better than most horror films that are made.
