Freddy's knife glove, Spartan war veteran

In the history class right before Nancy falls asleep, the teacher is droning on about the Spartans attacking Athens with many weapons being improvised. Just then, Nancy turns the page in the textbook and we see Freddy's glove. Was that a) meant to be a hallucination on her part (she was dead tired & fell asleep right after this),
b) made up for the movie and really in the prop textbook but not true, or
c) really true?
If c), can any1 into Spartan/Greek history confirm this with independent corroboration, or say pictures from an archaelogical dig where they actually found this kinda weapon? Also, would this have inspired the original version props guy and/or Wes Craven, or the other way around that the original movie inspired this movie to put it with the Spartans?
