I didn't like Freddy's backstory

I didn't like how they changed him from being a child murderer to a child molester. What made them do that? Did they thought the story was gonna cause controversy from that or something? Stay true to the backstory.

I didn't like how at first, it seemed like he really didn't abuse them, so that's why he's after them because they lied and got him killed, but really, he did abuse them and he was after them because they snitched on him and got him killed. Like...what? It actually should've been the other way around. That way, it would've been a good motive to kill them. How they did him in this movie just make him a douchebag-dickhead.

AND why they made Freddy look like he was a little slow? Why they made him some 'anti-social' loner that he only felt comfortable around kids, making him have a that 'pervert vibe'? Putting that in there just to add to his child molestration backstory. IMO, that backstory was disrespectful to Wes Craven and Freddy himself. Craven took his brilliant ideas for Freddy to make him more sinister and brought him to life. Instead, the remake wasted those ideas to make him a little 'squeaky clean'.

This new ANOES better go back to the original roots of Freddy or I'm going to be pissed.

Freddy was always supposed to be a child molester and murderer. Wes craven omitted that directly from elm st 1 at the time as there was something in the news regarding child rapes and thought it would've been disrespectful. It is still implied as Marges speech to Nancy that he was a filthy child murderer. To say he was filthy doesn't mean he didn't shower but a pervert/ rapist.
In Wes cravens script for elm at 3 it is again implied as Joey asks 'why me?' and Freddy says ''because I like you'' and licks his face.

This sucks! I thought it was amazing that in the original he came back for revenge because he was innocent. That's what made people fans and supportive of Freddy. The child molester backstory sucks!

He wasn't innocent in the original or the remake. Only what he did to the kids changed. Though I do wish he had been innocent in the remake. Would have been a nice twist.

I liked the approach of having him be a molester and treating Freddy like a repressed memory. It worked well to me.

Throwing Freddy's guilt into question was stupid and totally pointless.

It would have worked better if he actually did turn out to be innocent, but what the hell is the point of even bringing it up if he's just gonna turn out to be pure evil like Freddy has always been?

I actually was gonna post the same thing until I seen yours. It makes no sense for him to kill kids he molested because they snitched. Shouldn't he come after the parents instead? The kids didn't do anything. Also in the original with Freddy being comedic it made him appear very psychotic to me. With the new Freddy being serious it made me sympathize with him a little.
