In Defense of Nightmare on Elm Street(The Remake)

The Nightmare on Elm Street remake is my least favorite of the franchise but I still do love it and think it gets entirely too much of a bad rap as any of the Elm Street films in general.

The Nightmare on Elm Street remake is a film that came in at the right time and place for me unlike the Halloween franchise I think the original Nightmare on Elm Street series came to a proper conclusion and with Robert Englund's unfortunate age problem restricting what he could do with the role so it was time for someone new to take on the role.
Jackie Earle Haley's performance as Freddy Krueger was different and did a great job at respecting what came before him with Endlund's phonemail take on the character while bring something new to the table.
The film does a great job at bringing up a lot of new ideas that the original didn't explore.
The film's actors all do a great job in their roles no matter what anyone says.

Overall I think Nightmare on Elm Street from 2010 is a worthwhile installment in a beautiful franchise that is defiantly worth a watch for any Elm Street fan.I wish this film would get a sequel.

I'm afraid I can't agree.

Jackie Earl Haley is a great actor, I won't argue, but he comes across too close to doing his Rorschack voice. The make up looks terrible and the dream sequences lack any real creative drive. Which is a shame, because some of the deleted scenes looked like they held some promise.
Rooney Mara, while she has proven herself a capable actress since then, completely phoned this one in and it shows. In every scene.
Also, criminal misuse of Clancy Brown. The man is a treasure and this movie did nothing with him except pay his bills.
I think perhaps the most damning aspect of it was to try a bait switch with the story, suggesting that Freddy was an innocent victim.
Overall, just a train wreck of a movie from people that didn't respect the original series and just tried to make a quick buck.
