Child killer is more scary

Okay I think this remake was relatively good and the idea to go with the molestation theme was original and different. Freddy though in this version just makes you uncomfortable however does not give me the scary feeling I got from the original first movie and parts of 3. I guess we do not know for sure that Freddy was not a child killer in the remake before he died but they sure did not go for that angle. What made him terrifying in the original was my imagination and the mental imagery I got of him before he was killed. I think this was inspired by the boiler room scenes in the dream sequences. Its funny at one point I thought I heard a baby crying but then realized it could have been the sound of an older child being tortured. I got images of him slicing kids bellies open with his knives. And the little baby dolls he kept in his boiler room as trophies that must have belonged to his victims. Other things from the third movie that make your skin crawl are things like the melting tricyle and screams of children presumably being tortured. Another thing that stood out was when Kristen was in the nightmare house and Freddy coming and you see the shadow of his hat looming larger on the wall as he was coming for her. Just imagine seeing that and knowing you are about to be chased by this guy who will torture you when he catches you.

The scary clown doll is hiding under my bed.

I agree, Wes Craven had that idea and he said it was his worse. Freddy as a pedophile makes no sense, because Freddy gets a thrill out of killing. So as a killer it makes sense for him to continue, if he's a pedophile, he's just killing for revenge. Plus it complete takes out his entire back story. Plus the theme of the movie, is Freddy becoming more powerful in what he does in death, so going this route would mean Freddy going around raping in the dream world.

I also think it caused Jackie Haley to play him that way. He came off as a pedophile and criminal, not as a serial killer.

the original idea craven had was not that he was a molester but that he was both a child molester and murderer. he would molest children and then torture and murder them

Don't think it's really exclusive, the only reason for ever really murdering a child would be to get rid of them so they won't rat you out for molesting them. Has there ever been a child killer that wasn't a molester? The Jonbaney Ramsey case comes to mind.

Assume nothing; Question everything

reply

Yeah, I agree.

I definitely think that Freddy molested children then killed them in the original, it just wasn't focussed on like the remake is.

Yeah, most people don't know that Wes wanted Freddy to be both and that he hinted at the molestation angle. If it hadn't been for that child molestation case all over the news (very high profile) Freddy would have been called a molester from the start.

Child killer is terrifying but adding molestation to that makes it THAT much scarier. I mean first you get molested by a creepy guy, then tortured, then killed! Horrifying! How anyone can say it is only scary if he is just a killer is beyond me. To me that is like saying Jeffrey Dahmer would be scary if he just killed me since he dismantles and keep body parts is just stupid. Uh, no that makes it more disturbing.
