To be honest I didn't hate the movie I thought it was an okay movie. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either
I agree with this. Nowhere near the class of the original, but not the worst movie ever seen either. Robert Englund will always be the definitive Freddy, but I thought Jackie Earle Haley did an alright job I felt.
If I had to point out a problem with this movie, it wasn't with Haley, it was with the teenagers he was facing. There wasn't a Heather Langenkamp type that we cared about and wanted to succeed.
The could've been down partly to the writing. But it's also telling that Rooney Mara has claimed she didn't try very hard in this movie, because she didn't enjoy making it.
The villain is always going to be the main focal point in a horror movie, but you can't forget that a hero that people care about and empathise with is also important.
