Question.....spoiler, don't read if you haven't seen it

At the beginning of the movie when they are watching his house we get that camera view of micjael hall opening what looked like a cabinet and we saw no water. Then the next time he opens that cabinet we see water dripping in. Hall's wife ask the sheriff how did he get in the house and the sherif replies, "he never left, been in the crawl space this whole time". That didn't make since to me. If he'd Been in the crawlspace the whole time why do we see rainwater dripping in because that would mean the killer wasn't outside in the rain storm In that scene.

Wondering maybe if I missed something

reply

If I remember correctly, in the book, he was in the house the whole time.

reply

Yes he was. That didn't make sense either.

Maybe it was simply leaking because the entrance to the crawlspace was left open, and it had nothing to do with whether or not the guy had been soaked in rainwater. It would have been better if they had given a little more clarity to that scene.

reply

I cant remember exactly when the rain storm came but I know that the police and everyone was in place before the rain storm came. I dont know if the cabinet was opened prior to the rain storm but it could have been shown before the rain came. Also, at one point the water was shown dripping in the cabinet but no one noticed it and it was only when the house was quiet did Hall hear the water dripping.

To me, it made sense that he was in the house without being detected but I don't know that it's a major plot point, after you realize what has actually been going on...I mean, in the end it didn't have much to do with the big picture.

I just want to see the movie.

Ben was in the attic.

He comes out of the attic and leaves the hatch door open.

It starts raining heavily. Rain drops start falling through the open attic door - likely through a leak in the roof.

Richard, knowing the door shouldn't be open, deducts that Ben has entered his house this way.

The police deduce Ben was up there the whole time.

Do you see?

He's gonna wake up in a smoothie.
