Richard Dane - I don't get him

I enjoyed the film somewhat but just couldn't accept the main character.

Started out well, believable as the messed up guy who shot someone in self defence, I didn't know anything about the movie and thought it would be about is downfall after a traumatic event.

I can understand his curiosity after thinking the burglar he shot was not the the guy he thought, but from then on in he became unbelievable.

After he convinced the dad that his son was alive there was no reason for him to take part in the rest of the movie. If he was a tough Alpha Male from the start I could understand but he was painted as a soft everyday man. Even the postman said I just can't believe it was you. Why put himself at risk like that. The other two didn't need him.

He was doing what he thought was right. First he wanted peace of mind for himself and the man he thought wanted him dead. Then he wanted to help that man AND the women who were being murdered.

Sometimes a strange series of events can change a person.

He was drawn to the two guys who represented everything he was not. He was drawn to the idea of being part of something bigger than his ordinary life. The fact that he bothered to question the cops about Freddy, and decided to follow the cops late at night to see what they would do with Ben Russell, shows that he wanted a bit of excitement in his ho-hum life. Any other everyday Joe would've accepted the cops' explanation about Freddy and gone home.
