Worst movie score in 30 years

The entire time watching this I just wish I was watching COMMANDO. Steel drums, raging guitar riffs and all.

Yeah this movie is supposed to be set in the 80s. But a 2014 audience is watching it. We don't respond to that music in the same way anymore. It was a nice creative risk, but didn't pay off at all and ruined the movie in the process.

I thought the score was awesome. So did everyone else I watched it with. In the reviews I've read of it the score has often been mentioned very favorably. I've even been seriously considering buying it.

To each his own I guess, but you're the first person I've heard say this.

The score was better than the film. 80's style synth scores are where its at dude. Certainly when creating a certain atmosphere.

I love those bands/artists, but I agree with OP that the score just didn't work in the context of this film.

I think the score sometimes took over as the primary story teller. I had to fast forward all those "suspeseful" parts where you could tell a mile away what is going to happen just so as not to get irritated by the music.

The score is awesome

The score is what attracted me to the film in the first place...

The 80's score, Michael Mann cinematography and end credits, and Sonny Crockett were the best things about the movie. According to reports at the time, when Michael Mann left Miami Vice in 85 to film Manhunter he got into a long distant war over the direction of the show with Don Johnson; Johnson wanting to take the show into a darker and more, for lack of a better word, more existential direction. Or a unlettered actor's version of dark and existential. Cold in July played like a lost episode from that time-a 25 year flash forward to a retired Sonny Crockett. That being said, I preferred Michael Mann at the helm and I found this film disappointing. Like several people have pointed out, Michael C Hall journey into vigilante justice made no sense whatsoever.

Everyone is entitled to your opinion, but I feel the exact opposite of yours in accordance with the score of this movie. Wouldn't have liked the movie nearly as much without it.

a film set in 1989 with a classic 80's synth based movie soundtrack .. whats the problem ????

Speak for yourself dude. It was a throwback to the 80s. I loved the music. And who exactly were you refering to when you said "We don't respond to that music in the same way anymore." The entire human race? I'm pretty sure there's still a fair amount of people who dig 80s music. You know, the people who grew up in the 80s.

What's this "we" shìt? Speak for yourself, Millennial.

I don't dance, tell jokes or wear my pants too tight, but I do know about a thousand songs.
