I don't think he would be able to bring in audiences, more likely he would scare them away. The nasty, mean message he left on his daughter's phone was well publicized and I think people see him as a big jerk.
I agree with the both of you. Just saw Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and the episode with Alec Baldwin was really enjoyable and funny. He is a bit of a alphamale and his behavior on set depends a lot on his look on the quality of the cast and his interaction with fellow co-stars I think.
Nick Nolte would be good choice, he was in his Company You Keep too. I like it he casts well known but not so popular anymore (and a little older now) actors in other roles.
Ever since Jeremiah Johnson I want him or any other good actor/producer to make a film about trekking one of those trails on horseback.
