Sundance Review

From The Hollywood Reporter:

"A delightful journey with fine star turns by Redford and Nolte that should prove a good draw for finicky older audiences."

"The biggest difference that Bryson’s legions of readers will recognize is that in the book, the two men who take the adventure are 44 years old, whereas Redford and Nolte are in their seventies"

Thanks for the link. I was about to post it, also. I loved the book and I think the film is going to be hilarious.

Early on they find themselves unwillingly joined by Mary Ellen (a game Kristen Schaal), a complete dingbat who speaks nonsense on every subject and never shuts up; this ordeal requires a quick, if rude, escape on the men’s part. There are other female encounters along the way that provoke various reactions. A lonely motel and restaurant owner (Mary Steenburgen) makes her interest clear to Bryson, who takes a pass. Katz, meanwhile, gets into an awkward and funny spot with an abundantly proportioned woman he meets in a laundromat, which ultimately requires the old coot to escape out a back window.

 I can't wait to see Nolte as the out of shape Katz.

Good for Robert Redford perseverance in making the movie.

Speaking as a fan of the book: I'm horrified by the casting of two men in their seventies, and think they may qualify for the Miscasting Hall of Fame.

Seriously, the trail was a massive struggle for two men in their forties, would their saga be physically possible for out-of-shape seventy-year-olds? Why the hell is Redford playing Bryson, the fitter of the two, when he's damn near eighty? Why is Katz trying to straighten out and get a job well after retirement age? I mean by then, the damage has been done.

Even Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill would have been better casting, and I loathe both of those smug trolls.

I just saw a clip of a scene with Nick Nolte and he's priceless! Can't wait to see this.
