Hasn't he recently had a foot/leg amputated? Was definitely in a bad way last I heard.
shareIt would be good but his voice has gotten terribly messed up after a car wreck. From what I have read, the EMS officers damaged one of his vocal cords when they had to push a tube down his throat for medical assistance. A tragedy. I can assure you if it was just the foot, he would still be going at it but without your voice in that business, it is pretty hard to continue. It looks like he is probably retired. I wish him a long and happy retirement.

How is he supposed to come up with this figure in a wheelchair? And it is rumored that his vocal chords were damaged by intubation after a car crash so he can't even do voice work which can be performed from home.
JMV was the studio's first choice to play Hooper in Jaws which would have been more in keeping with the book. Hooper was hot in the book.

I hadn't heard of JMV considered for the part of Hooper. That would have been fantastic, actually, if he was up for it. Although Dreyfuss had great intensity and funny bits, little quirks I can only see him doing.

I know once a film becomes so iconic, it's virtually impossible to imagine someone else in a key role, but if you haven't read the book, pick up a copy. Spoiler ahead: Hooper was SO sexy that there was a fling, or a hint of one, can't remember, with Sherif Brody's wife, which added a whole extra level of tension and angst. But I guess with a 30 foot man-eater, more angst may be superfluous in a film.
And yes, JMV really was seriously considered. Maybe the Dreyfus casting was to make the film more family friendly? Although children watching other children being munched off a float is fairly grim.

There were hundreds but this one had an interesting note regarding the first victim.
He was also the directors first choice for the 1975 movie "Hard Times" he was up for the Charles Bronson's part, James Colburn was in this also, Also, considered, strongly for "Superman" in 1978. Had the unfortunate title of King of the B movies in the 70's, but i think he was more comfortable with this.

He was incredible and unforgettable as Byron Henry in the TV mini series about WW II "The Winds of War" based on Herman Wouk's novel.
The fact that Dan Curtis did not let JMV continue playing the part in "War and Remembrance" (and also replaced Ali MacGraw by sleeping pill Jane Seymour) was a big mistake.
I watched the continuation twice, but keep fast-forwarding the Seymour aka Natalie Jastrow scenes as they are so bad. Seymour has no charisma at all. Period. And as attractive as Bochner was, JMV was a lot better as Byron Henry.
WOW is absolutely brilliant, WAR is weak.
